Alcohol Free Days Counter
Pick your first alcohol-free day and watch the count and the calendar. A day with a drink changes the current streak only, never your total.

How to use the Alcohol-Free Days Counter
- In the setup card, enter your First alcohol-free day. It can be today or any earlier date.
- Choose How you count. Pick Quit if every day counts unless you log a drink, or Cut down if you will log each day yourself.
- Select Start counting. The three tiles and the month calendar appear.
- Click a day on the calendar to open its panel.
- Optionally enter Standard drinks and a Note for that day.
- Press Alcohol-free day or I had a drink. To undo an entry, press Clear this day.
- Open Settings, money and export to choose Day counting (Start day is day 1 or day 0), enter Cost of one standard drink and Drinks on a typical day before, or use Download CSV and Erase my log.
Use the arrow buttons above the calendar to move to the previous or next month, and click any earlier day to fill in a day you missed. Press Save changes after you edit the settings. Settings, money and export sit together in one area, so you can change your counting rules at any point without losing your log. Days before your first day and future days are greyed out on the calendar.
How do I count alcohol-free days?
Each day is either alcohol-free or a drink day, and the count runs from your first alcohol-free day up to today. In Quit mode, every day counts unless you log a drink. In Cut down mode, you log each day yourself, and a past day with no entry counts as neither alcohol-free nor a drink, which ends your streak.
Totals count whole calendar days, so the arithmetic follows dates rather than clock hours. For example, 2024-02-28 to 2024-03-01 is 3 days, because 2024 is a leap year and February has 29 days. In Cut down mode, today does not end your streak until the day has passed.
What happens to my count if I have a drink?
Logging a drink ends your current streak on that day, and a new run starts the next day. Your total alcohol-free days and your longest streak never go down. If you logged a drink by mistake, press Clear this day and the streak comes back.
What is the difference between current streak, longest streak and total days?
Your current streak is the run of consecutive alcohol-free days leading up to today. Your longest streak is the best run you have had in the log. Total alcohol-free days counts every alcohol-free day, whether or not they were in a row.
Here is the tool’s worked example: first day 2026-01-01, today 2026-01-10, and one drink logged on 2026-01-05.
| Measure | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Total alcohol-free days | 9 | Ten days from 1 to 10 January, minus the drink on 5 January |
| Current streak | 5 | 6 to 10 January, since the drink on 5 January |
| Longest streak | 5 | 1 to 4 January is only 4 days, so the current run is the best |
| Drink days | 1 | 5 January |
Do I count the first day as day 1?
It depends on the Day counting setting. With Start day is day 1, your first alcohol-free day counts as day 1. With day 0, the first day shows 0, and only completed days count toward your number.
If you want a day to count only once it has finished, choose day 0. If you prefer your first day to show as a full day right away, choose day 1.
Which milestones does the counter show?
In Quit mode the page shows the next milestone and how many days remain. The milestones are days 1, 2, 3, 7, 14, 21, 30, 60, 90, 100, 180, 200, 365 and 500, and after 500 every multiple of 365 or 500 days. They are markers for your own count, nothing more. The line sits under the three tiles and moves on to the next milestone as soon as you pass one.
How does the counter handle leap years and clock changes?
It counts calendar dates, not hours. A date is a year, a month and a day, so the clock going forward or back in spring and autumn never moves a day, and 29 February is counted like any other date. If you travel to another time zone, today is simply the date on your device.
Frequently asked questions
Can I start counting from a date in the past?
Yes. The First alcohol-free day can be today or any earlier date. Days before that date are greyed out on the calendar.
Where is my log stored?
The log is kept only in this browser and is shared with the Alcohol tracker page. Clearing your site data removes it, so download a CSV first if you want a copy.
Why does my streak show 0 on the first day?
You have Day counting set to Start day is day 0, which counts only completed days. Switch it to Start day is day 1 in Settings, money and export and the first day shows as 1.
Is there an app version?
Yes, the DryTally app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android uses the same counting rules and adds widgets. It is not in the stores yet. This page works in any modern browser without it.
Can I export my data?
Yes. Download CSV, in the settings area, saves your log as a CSV file.
What does the amount not spent show?
If you enter Cost of one standard drink and Drinks on a typical day before, the tool shows an amount not spent. It is calculated only from those two numbers, so it is an estimate based on what you entered, not a record of your actual spending.
